UCLA FWC Sections: Books and Sounds

Welcome to the First Meeting of our Book Section, 2015-2016

We (the "bookies" as Debby Kennel call us) enjoyed our first meeting in 2015/2016. Our hostess Barbara Crandall (4th from left in the photo below) offered her residence for our first gathering, October 13th 2015.

We discussed Patrick Modiano's work "Suspended Sentences" published  by Yale University Press in 2014. Zorana discussed the book which consists of three separately published novellas (Afterimage, Suspended Sentences, and Flowers of
Ruin
).
Not included in the above group photo are Debby Kennel, Ira, Margaret, Phyllis, Bette, and Rochelle.

We also enjoyed our October Salon de Musique which was held at Debby Kennel's house. Here are a few photos from that gathering.

Welcome to the world of POETRY !

Book Section of the UCLA's Faculty Women's Club started off the New Year (2015!) with poetry readings. The group, consisting of eleven members (see the photo below) gathered at the home of Barbara Crandall, socialized, and read self-selected poems.

Discussing Donna Tartt's book, The Goldfinch, was lively and fun. We enjoyed our friendship and great appetizers with refreshments. Charlie Rose interviewed Tartt; she talks about The Goldfinch (2013) as well as about her style of writing.
